John Mayer Live Archive

If you're looking for the best moments from John Mayer's live shows, this is the place. When he encouraged us to try out Tumblr in April of 2010, I noticed pretty quickly that we would soon be inundated in the best way with John related material so a separate page was conceived. Posts break down into the following; john speaks for writing, performance and interview quotes, audio for all of those live jems we can't get enough of, and video for when we just have to see those performances again. The left side of the brain has coded audio and video with song title acronyms along with the year for which the performance took place and in some cases the venue. If the clip is acoustic, it has been tagged as such. Another page has been created to archive the text of our favorite interviews so please feel free to make a request. With some of them being quite lengthy the goal now is to transcribe one per month. Finally, those moments that give us butterflies because they're so sweet have been categorized as well.

Fan: You're a douche, but I still love you.
JM: How can you tell someone that they're a douche but you still love them? That either means that you're able to have such duality emotionally, or 'douche' is not that derogatory a term. Because if you're able to think somebody's a douche but still love them.. that's basically your calling me a douche is more or less your compensating for your, like, feeling strange about liking me. So you have to say that. That's like telling to your therapist, "This stays between you and me, but.." It's like you're really just saying, "This stays between you and me" so you feel more comfortable about what you're about to say. So calling me a douche in that setting is more a revelation or reveal of your own sort of, like, you know, trips and whatnot. And so instead of me saying, "Hey, don't call me a douche," I'll say, I understand what you're trying to say, but I get it. You're trying to reconcile the fact that you can't help but love me and I would definitely like to say welcome to my family.
